Kumano Kodo Inspection by Turismo de Santiago de Compostela

For 3 days from June 24th the Tourism PR director of Turismo de Santiago de Compostela came to inspect the core area of Kumano including the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi Route and Kumano Hongu Taisha. With a request from the International Culture Dept. of Wakayama Prefecture, Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau attended this inspection as an interpreter and guide.

We visited sites along the Kumano Kodo by car including Takijiri-oji, Takahara Kumano-jinja Shrine and Tsugizakura-oji before touring the Wakayama World Heritage Center in Hongu. We also walked a short section of pilgrimage route, 7 km from Hosshinmon-oji to Kumano Hongu Taisha, to feel the cultural scenery of Kumano.

“Kumano Kodo exists with a special relationship between nature and religion. TV Wakayama Live Interview

On June 27th Brad Towle, Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau’s International Tourism Promotion and Development Director, was interview live on TV Wakayama’s News Corner.The interview took place at the branch studio at the Big U facility in Tanabe City. Brad’s personal history, tourism promotion, the importance of bilingual maps and promotional materials were discussed.
