Bureau’s Homepage is No.1 in Japan!

The role of NPOs in Regional Management of Rural Areas

The 2007 symposium entitled “The role of NPOs in Regional Management of Rural Areas” will be held in Kochi prefecture Kuroshio city. Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau was invited by the Hosei University’s Laboratory of Regional Design with Ecology to be a guest speaker and panel member. Discussions over regional management will be held for two days from February 8th.

We hope that these kinds of initiatives will build a network of like minded people to promote sustainable tourism in rural Japan.

6th Anniversary of the Friendly Bilateral Ties between Hongu and Sagamihara

On January 26th in celebration of the 6th anniversary of the friendly bilateral ties between “Sagami Terute Hime no Kai” from Kanagawa prefecture and Hongu’s “Kumano Oguri no Kai,” these two groups held a get-together and planted memorial trees at Hongu’s Yunomine Onsen.

For this event “Terute Hime no Kai” group was made up of 28 participants including the Sagamihara City Mayor as its honorary chairman. “Oguri no Kai” group had 10 participants. In a celebration of 6th anniversary event they exchanged information with each other.

On the 27th, they planted 5 “hanamomo trees (related to Terute)” along the Kumano Kodo route in Yunomine Onsen area. Afterwards they paid homage at Kumano Hongu Taisha and Kumano Nachi Taisha.

Mr. Kishine, the chairman of the Terute Hime no Kai, said “I woke up at 5 o’clock and was the first to bathe in Tsuboyu. I was glad to bathe in a legendary bath that brought Oguri’s back to life. It is the only hot spring bath registered as World Heritage that one can bath…

Kansai JTB Tabi Net New year’s party

Kansai JTB Tabi Net Group held a “Goreikai”; a new year’s business party at the Ritz-Carlton Osaka.  68 people in total from JTB travel related groups and JTB travel employees and its affiliates gathered for this event.


After the Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau Director’s opening speech, Brad, our International Tourism Promotion and Development Director, gave a presentation about Tanabe’s Tourism assets. Afterwards a lottery for Tanabe’s specialty products was held which was well received by participants.
