6th Anniversary of the Friendly Bilateral Ties between Hongu and Sagamihara

On January 26th in celebration of the 6th anniversary of the friendly bilateral ties between “Sagami Terute Hime no Kai” from Kanagawa prefecture and Hongu’s “Kumano Oguri no Kai,” these two groups held a get-together and planted memorial trees at Hongu’s Yunomine Onsen.

For this event “Terute Hime no Kai” group was made up of 28 participants including the Sagamihara City Mayor as its honorary chairman. “Oguri no Kai” group had 10 participants. In a celebration of 6th anniversary event they exchanged information with each other.

On the 27th, they planted 5 “hanamomo trees (related to Terute)” along the Kumano Kodo route in Yunomine Onsen area. Afterwards they paid homage at Kumano Hongu Taisha and Kumano Nachi Taisha.

Mr. Kishine, the chairman of the Terute Hime no Kai, said “I woke up at 5 o’clock and was the first to bathe in Tsuboyu. I was glad to bathe in a legendary bath that brought Oguri’s back to life. It is the only hot spring bath registered as World Heritage that one can bathe in.”

These two groups are private sector groups. It is a positive to see that private sector groups partake in cultural exchange projects.

Manseiro Ryokan has joined the Kumano Travel community!

Manseiro Ryokan is a located on the edge of Katsuura Bay across from the tourist pier, within walking distance of the Kii-Katsuura station.  The building itself is older but the atmosphere is friendly and comfortable.  The traditional Japanese Kaiseki meals, with a focus on fresh local products, is a highlight of a stay at Manseiro.  There are both Japanese and Western style rooms.  There are hot spring baths in the facility, but guests can also take the ferry across to the neighboring Hotel Urashima and soak there for free, including the famous Bokido onsen cave bath overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
