French Travel Agents FAM Trip in Kumano

From March 1st to 7th, a familiarization tour for French travel agencies was held by the Wakayama Prefectural Tourism Associations and Kyoto City.
Nine travel planners participated in this FAM tour to inspect tourism destinations in Wakayama and Kyoto.

In Tanabe, the tour covered the UNESCO World Heritage sites in the property “Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range” and Onsen (hot springs). The Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau was in charge of guiding during the Tanabe City portion of the tour.

On day one, they transferred directly to Koyasan from the Kansai International Airport. The tour visited the main sites in Koyasan such as Okunoin and Kongobuji Temple. Afterwards they stayed at a temple lodging. In Koyasan they experienced the Shingon school of Esoteric Buddhism such as Gongyo (Buddhist ritual) and Yakuzenn Ryouri (Herbal medicine dishes).

On their second day they visited Tanabe City. They arrived at Ryujin Onsen via the scenic Koya-Ryujin Skyline highway. After inspecting Ryujin they continued onto Hongu. In Hongu they visited the World Heritage Kumano Kodo Nakahechi pilgrimage route, the Kumano Hongu Taisha, Onsens, and accommodation facilities.

The tour will continue onto the other two grand shrines of the Kumano Sanzan before travelling to Kyoto.

The photos are at the Kumano Hongu Taisha and the Wakayama World Heritage Center.

Manseiro Ryokan has joined the Kumano Travel community!

Manseiro Ryokan is a located on the edge of Katsuura Bay across from the tourist pier, within walking distance of the Kii-Katsuura station.  The building itself is older but the atmosphere is friendly and comfortable.  The traditional Japanese Kaiseki meals, with a focus on fresh local products, is a highlight of a stay at Manseiro.  There are both Japanese and Western style rooms.  There are hot spring baths in the facility, but guests can also take the ferry across to the neighboring Hotel Urashima and soak there for free, including the famous Bokido onsen cave bath overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
