Associated Press freelance producer BANDOS KINKI visited Tanabe City on May 19 to cover Binchotan Charcoal and Chainsaw art. The Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau supported this media tour.
A six minute video is planned including scenes of charcoal production in the mountains of Tanabe City and restaurants that use these products for cooking in Osaka.
“Using Kishu Binchotan Charcoal as the medium, I would like to create a contrast between Tanabe, the birthplace of Kishu Binchotan charcoal surrounded by nature, and Osaka, the place of consumption…” stated Tobias Bando about his concept for this piece.
To cover chainsaw art, the tour visited Mr. Kidokoro, the reigning three-time World Chainsaw Art Champion, in Ryujin Village. Mr. Kidokoro held a powerful demonstration of this dynamic art form.
