Sacred Kumano-Tanabe City Maps

Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau’s new bilingual (Japanese, English) Sacred Kumano Map pamphlets have arrived. They will be available throughout the area including the information center in front of the Kii-Tanabe Station. There is an overview map of Tanabe City which includes the areas that merged in 2005 and detailed maps of Hongu, Takahara, Nakahechi & Ryujin. These maps are available online in a modified format.

Japan has been going through a large political realignment over the past few years which have lead to multiple municipal mergers. Tanabe City is one of the largest cities by area in the Kansai area. For a complete list of mergers in Japan, click here. The original Tanabe City by the coast now covers a large portion of the Kii Mountain Range. This is the first map to cover this area in both English and Japanese.

A separate list of accommodations corresponds with numbers on the maps.
