Hong Kong media FAM trip in Hongu

On February 1st, two journalists from Hong Kong newspapers and their interpreters visited the Hongu area of Tanabe city. The Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau and Wakayama Prefectural officials supported their trip.

The journalists that visited were from major publishing companies in Hong Kong, “東方日報 Oriental Daily News” and “頭條日報 Headline Daily”.

They focused their coverage on the hot spring areas such as Yunomine Onsen and Kawayu Onsen

They visited Yunomine Onsen, which is the site of the Tsuboyu bath, the only hot spring that you can bath in that is registered as UNESCO World Heritage.  They also boiled eggs in the public hot spring basin located in the center of the village.

At Kawayu Onsen they filmed a large natural outside bath called “Sennin buro” which is made in the Oto River that runs through the community. Fujiya Ryokan, a long-established Japanese-style inn, allowed us access of the inside bath and made traditional Japanese cuisine as well.

Although it was rainy, the participants were very satisfied with the atmosphere of the Onsens in the Hongu area and enjoyed the delicious Japanese cuisine at Fujiya.

Thank you very much to Oriental Daily News and Headline News for taking the time to visit us here in the Kumano Region, and we are looking forward to see these articles in the newspapers soon.

Manseiro Ryokan has joined the Kumano Travel community!

Manseiro Ryokan is a located on the edge of Katsuura Bay across from the tourist pier, within walking distance of the Kii-Katsuura station.  The building itself is older but the atmosphere is friendly and comfortable.  The traditional Japanese Kaiseki meals, with a focus on fresh local products, is a highlight of a stay at Manseiro.  There are both Japanese and Western style rooms.  There are hot spring baths in the facility, but guests can also take the ferry across to the neighboring Hotel Urashima and soak there for free, including the famous Bokido onsen cave bath overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
