On April 27th, NPO Information Resource Center Tanabe hosted a lecture by Mr. Isao Sawa who is chosen as one of the 100 Tourism Charisma Ambassadors (Japanese site) by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The event took place in Kii Tanabe City Plaza Hotel.

The title of this lecture was “Hospitality to foreign tourists in local areas ～Town development through attractive accommodations～”.
In the lecture, he humorously spoke about his experiences of revitalizing the failing Sawanoya Ryokan in downtown Tokyo which now has a 90 percent occupancy rate’s. They did this by welcoming the foreign tourists from different culture and custom.
In addition, he spoke about his theory that it is essential for tourism development to not only focus on individual Ryokan, but the whole area's hospitality towards tourists must be developed.
After the lecture, we were honored to have Mr. Sawa visit the Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau and listen to more of his impressive story.
We hope that some of the experiences that he went through will give the citizens of Tanabe City some hints on how to positively develop the region for international and domestic visitors.
