On July 14th, a panel discussion during the pre-symposium of the National Governors’ Association Meeting took place in Wakayama City. The Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau Director, Noriko Tada, was a guest speaker at the event.
Members of the panel discussion were the Kanagawa prefectural governor, Wakayama prefectural governor, Ganko foods’ CEO, and the Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau Director. The president of Organization of Kansai Unity was the coordinator. They exchanged opinions regarding the meaning of Organization of Kansai Unity and local development.
Noriko Tada spoke about our bureau’s initiatives, the future of our Destination Management Company and the role of local guides. She highlighted the importance of multi-level coordination at the public and private level, local area development needs, establishing an online reservation system to meet the needs of the changing travel industry, and the importance of local guides.
The decentralization of tourism in Japan in increasing and it is important to take a balanced, overview perspective on development and regional branding.
