Tanabe City and Totsukawa-mura Village Press Tour

On July 29th and 30th, Tanabe City and Totsukawa-mura Village held a press tour for 10 Japanese medias outlets (11 people). City tourism officials from both Tanabe City and Tosukawa-mura Village, along with the Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau’s staff supported this tour.

The theme of this press tour was "Cool and relaxing Kumano Travel". The tour included a Dorokyo Gorge Boat Tour in the Yoshino-Kumano National Park region of Totsukawa-mura Village. It was rainy weather, but the gorge was full of mist which added a eerie atmosphere.

For supper we ate “Kumano’s Medicinal Yakuzen Cuisine” in Kameya Ryokan, a long-established Japanese-style inn at Kawayu Onsen. We stayed overnight at Kawayu Midoriya Hotel and had an onsen bath experience in the river to release stress and tiredness.

On the second day, the tour included a walk from Fushiogami-oji to Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine along the Nakahechi section of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes. On the way, we had a “Wood bed, forest bath experience” by lying down on cedar logs.

A priest at the Kumano Hongu Taisha guided the tour throughout the shrine grounds. We also covered the rent-a-bicycle program in Hongu and visited Oyunohara.

At Yunomine Onsen participants visited Tsuboyu bath and boiled eggs in the public hot spring basin located in the center of the village.

One of the participants commented that “It was great experience for me and I am now a fan of Kumano.”

Thank you everyone for joining our tour.

Manseiro Ryokan has joined the Kumano Travel community!

Manseiro Ryokan is a located on the edge of Katsuura Bay across from the tourist pier, within walking distance of the Kii-Katsuura station.  The building itself is older but the atmosphere is friendly and comfortable.  The traditional Japanese Kaiseki meals, with a focus on fresh local products, is a highlight of a stay at Manseiro.  There are both Japanese and Western style rooms.  There are hot spring baths in the facility, but guests can also take the ferry across to the neighboring Hotel Urashima and soak there for free, including the famous Bokido onsen cave bath overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
