The National Geographic Channel in conjunction with Costas Christ, Chairman of the Judges for the WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Awards interview the Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau, Finalists in the Destination Stewardship category. 
The interview was focused on why our Tourism Bureau was selected as finalist and about our work as a best practice sustainable tourism company and destination.
This interviewed will be aired in Europe the summer of 2012.

Japan's national TV broadcaster NHK covered the new farm stay program in Tanabe City.  This was part of the Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau's monitor tour and the first of its kind to introduce international visitors to this unique experience.

Shirahama Toku Toku Free Pass for travelers


Shirahama Toku Toku Pass is a transportation pass for use on local busses in Shirahama.  It was developed for all travelers to discover freely and economically areas that were not covered by other passes. It is valid for unlimited bus ride which links from Shirahama station to tourist spots. Shirahama is located on the west coast of the Kii Peninsula across the bay from Tanabe. Using Shirahama Toku Toku Pass, allows you to visit Shirahama beach, Engetsu islet, Sandanbeki cavern and many of sightseeing spots in Shirahama.

Tanabe City featured in Thai media  Holiday Japan!


For three days starting from March 14, 2012  Thai media “Holiday Japan!”(Thai’s TV program about introducing attractive sightseeing sights and materials in Japan) visited Tanabe City. The Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau supported their visit. The show will include scenes from Wakayama City, Yuasa City, Shirahama, and Nachi-Katuura.
The reporter focused on filming OkuKumanodaiko Japanese drum, Kumano beef, Nankoubai-Japanese apricot (Ume), Kawayu Onsen, Yunomine Onsen, Kumano Hongu Taisha. The director, who has visited Japan many times, said “Wakayama is one of the most attractive sightseeing places in Japan.” He also said he wants to come back to Kumano area again. Japan is one of the most fascinating countries for Thai people and believe that more tourists will visit Japan in future. 
It will be broadcasted on channel 5 in Thailand and also on the Internet from their website.

Kanasai WIDE Area Pass is a special transportation pass for use on the JR train lines in Kansai (Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe), Okayama and Wakayama, Kinosaki Onsen Area. It is valid for unlimited travel in valid areas. You can ride on all the JR trains in those area not only local trains but also non-reserved seats on Sanyo-Shinkansen(Shin-Osaka to Okayama) and express trains such as HARUKA(Kansai Aiport to Kyoto) and KUROSHIO(Kyoto, Shin-Osaka to Kii-Tanabe, Shirahama, Kii-Katsuura, Shingu). This pass is a 4 days ticket for four consecutive days.
Using Kansai WIDE Area Pass and Kansai Wakayama Pass (W-PASS), allows you to visit many of historical places in Western part of Japan and the world heritage sites such as Koyasan, Kumano Hongu Taisha, Kumano Nachi Taisha, and Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes.  You can also visit the isolated hot spring areas of Ryujin Onsen, Kawayu Onsen, and Yunomine Onsen.

Freegate Shirahama has joined the Kumano Travel Community!

Freegate Shirahama is a hotel with a mission.  The building itself is an old government residence that has been transformed into a hotel, with the renewal opening in March 2012.  It is a pilot project for Japan being staffed partly by mentally and physically disabled people, giving them an important chance to obtain life skills and be a productive part in society.  It is located within walking distance of the beautifully Shirarahama beach and boasts its own hot spring bath.  Meals are focused on the local, fresh seafood.  Welcome!

Hotel Subaru has joined the Kumano Travel Community!

Hotel Subaru is a hot spring retreat in Totsukawa village north of the Hongu area.  It is well known for its excellent onsen baths and quiet natural surroundings.  The Kohechi Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route runs through the grounds making it a preferred stop for hikers;  to the south is the Hatenashi-toge pass to Hongu and to the north is the Miura-toge pass. There is rental car service based at the hotel for those that wish to explore nearby sites, including the mountain-top Tamaki-jinja shrine and its giant trees.
