Kumano Hongu Eco Tour for children
For three days from August 24 to 26, 2012, the Kumano Hongu Eco Tour for children was held in the Hongu area. The tour was collaboration with Sakai Ecology School, Kansai University, and the Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau.
Sakai Ecology School is an organization for environmental education for people who live or work in Sakai City, Osaka. About 40 people include elementary school students in Sakai City and university students from Kasai University Sakai Campus joined the tour.
They learned about the joy of nature in the Kumano area and environmental education by experiencing such as thinning out of a forest, making a “Taketombo”, the propeller-shaped Japanese flying toy made of bamboo, visiting Kawayu Onsen, and joining Yata-no-Hi Matsuri Fire Festival.
A guided walk on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route from Hosshinmon-ojito Kumano Hongu Taisha was also a highlight.
Thank you very much to everyone involved in this successful tour.
